Z’s 2020 Denim Guide

Buying jeans online (or in person for that matter) can be the absolute worst! They all fit SO differently, have different sizes, material thicknesses, amounts of stretch & length, inches in high rise, etc. I am here to help you discover your most favorite pair of jeans based off the jeans I have purchased recently!

I will provide a review of different styles of jeans from Agolde, Madewell, WeWoreWhat x Joes, Zara, and Nasty Gal. These brands all range in price from high-end to about as inexpensive as they come – & I think you’ll be SHOCKED by my top pick! Now obviously I know I am missing some MAJOR denim brands like Levis (next to try!), 7s, Paige, etc, but I am hoping to get to try these brands sometime in the future and review these for you as well.

For your reference, depending on the day and denim brand I typically wear a 26-27 or 4-6 in pants.

  1. Agolde: Riley High-Rise Straight Crop $178 – Size 26, purchased from Revolve.

Agolde is a premium denim brand located in downtown LA. These Riley high rise jeans are really great quality with little to no stretch. I purchased these jeans in a 26, but I wish I had sized up because some days they are so tight they are uncomfortable to even wear. I have heard these jeans fit a lot like Levi’s which I will hopefully get to try one day! My favorite thing about this pair is how high-waisted they are. They have an 11 inch high rise that come over my belly button– keep this in mind when you choose your size. The crop length fits perfectly with my heels pictured below or with any gym shoes and the color is the most ideal denim color!

2. Madewell: High-rise Road Tripper skinny jeans $75-$130, Size 26.

I have a few pairs of Madewell jeans and I really love them all equally. My favorite pair is the Road Tripper pant because this is the most moderately priced pair at $75 and it comes in black and other blue denim colors. If you go to Madewell in person to shop and you have a student ID you can get 15% off your purchase! All of the Road Tripper pairs I have are 10 inch rise so they are moderately high waisted–could always be higher if you ask me :). These pants have much more stretch than some jeans so I usually always wear a 26 in Madewell’s Denim. If you’re between sizes, I would suggest sizing down.

3. WeWoreWhat x Joes Jeans: The Danielle in White and Vintage denim. $140- $198, Size 26 & 27.

Like the Agolde jeans, these jeans are 11 inch rise with little to no stretch (depending on the color). In the denim color I wear a 26 and in the white I sized up to a 27 because they had even less stretch than the vintage denim. I really like these pants because of the button detail! You can get almost these exact jeans on WeWoreWhat’s site since the Joes x www collab was a one time thing. Luckily, the designer, Danielle Bernstein was able to bring the price down a lot from her Joes collab because $200 is more than I would typically spend on jeans. She is also constantly refining her designs based on customer feedback which I LOVE!

4. Zara: High-Waisted Ripped Mom Jeans, $40-$50, Size 6.

These jeans are my absolute favorite. If you haven’t guessed by my insta feed these are the winner of the denim showdown BY FAR! I live in these things!

I am wearing a size 6 in these particular pants, but with Zara sizes can vary a great deal. Also, if you want to find the same pair in the future- good luck to you. The pair pictured below are 11 inch rise, and stretch a little with wear which is super nice. I love the ripped details which can be dressed up or styled super casually. I have another pair which is very similar and I wear them interchangeably.

5. Nasty Gal: High-Waist Ripped Black Mom Jeans, $30, size 6.

These jeans are pretty great and are the most inexpensive jeans I own. I would say they’re comparable to Zara’s denim quality. If you’re on a budget I would definitely suggest checking out Nasty Gal’s denim! My particular pair is extremely ripped, black denim, so they were perfect for spring/summer. I’m really excited to try another pair for winter sans the holes.

Thanks for reading my denim guide! I love sharing my shopping picks with you and I hope you’re all excited to try some jeans from Zara if you haven’t already! As always you can shop my looks here.
